I didn’t have any specific direction when I set out to put together this year’s CD. As I started putting the song mix together, I considered naming it “Beats, Brass, and Boogie” which is probably a more descriptive title. I just couldn’t resist the pun of the title I chose though. There are probably more songs on this album that people are going to either love or hate, but I took that chance anyway. There was something about the songs by Sufjan Stevens that, while far from traditional, spoke to me. Another song, “Holiday Road”, isn’t normally thought of as a Christmas song, but I aim to change that. It’s a great song and just fit with the mix.
