find joy
2024
This year did not turn out like I hoped it would, and like many of you, I am worried and scared about our future. I have had so many of you tell me that you are having trouble getting in the holiday spirit. I get that. I am in the same boat. But no matter what the future holds, I want you to try and do one simple thing this holiday season: find joy.
It doesn’t matter how big or small it is. It could be watching the snow gently falling. Or giving a gift that makes the recipient smile. Or watching a child in innocent wonder as they sit on Santa’s lap. Or the twinkling of your neighbors’ Christmas lights. It might even be listening to these songs.
As we go into the new year with uncertainty and trepidation, try to find the simple joys around you. It’s only then that we know we haven’t been entirely defeated. Hold faith that dark days will pass.
To borrow the lyrics from a couple of the songs:
“In the dark we’re not lost
When it’s hard we’re not lost
Don’t lose heart
We’re never truly lost”
– Rend Collective
“All ye beneath life’s crushing load
Whose forms are bending low
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow
Look now for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing
O rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing
And hear the angels sing”
– Edmund Sears
Daryl and I wish. you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays with love.
